Who owns the land, county by county
CountyLedger counts what public parcel records say about land ownership in each county: how many parcels belong to owners who live in another state, how many have no building on them, how many are held by an estate or heirs, and how many are owned by people rather than companies or governments.
Every figure is a county total. The site never shows an owner's name, an address or a single parcel, and there is no way to look a person up here.
Each share comes with what it was counted out of, because the records are uneven: some counties publish an owner's mailing address for nearly every parcel, others for far fewer. Where a county's records can't answer a question, the page says "no data" rather than guessing. The method page explains each measure and what it can't tell you.
